THE SOLUTION OF THE FIRST ENTAILS THAT OF THE SECOND
Collection Museum of Contemporary Art of Rio Grande do Sul

Photography on paper, 61.5 x 98.5 cm (each), triptych
CAREFULLY THROUGH
2009 – 2012
Series of photographs of places, taken with a crosshair lens, from a single viewpoint capable of revealing the different spaces of the same place. The photos were framed so that the distortion caused by the large ocular lens is as imperceptible as possible. In that way, the central part of the image is enhanced.
The work deals with the perception of the place, from where one stands, and, in a metaphorical sense, the perception of the individual within the space they occupy.

IN CASE OF DOUBT, CHOOSE UNCERTAINTY
Collection Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS), Porto Alegre – RS
2007 – 2010
Series of photographs captured from the same space, from slightly different camera positions. Generally, the series is composed of diptychs (except for one single photograph) which should be shown with a small separation between the two images.
The photographic series dialogues with the relativity of perceiving a place and, metaphorically, with the same idea from distinct vantage points. The same space is presented twice, from slightly different points of view. The entire series was made in Japan.
Dimensions: 55 x 40 cm

CHRONOTOPE
2005 – 2010
According to Bakhtin, “Chronotope is the connection of temporal and spatial relations artistically assimilated in literature... it is the space-time unity, of expressive formal character. It is a discourse of time (short duration) densified by space, in which both intersect and become visible and appreciable to the spectator.”
The Chronotope series is composed of photographs of corridors so as to emphasize Cartesian perspective in the representation of that space: the vanishing point is at the center of the image. The photos are taken with the camera fixed in the same place, registering the actions that occur in the space. The presentation of the work is done by placing multiple photos side by side (and/or in layers), thus scrambling the actions and short histories of its characters. In some of these images, a digital alteration may be made, so as to multiply a character in the same photo, creating a loop in their story relative to the other characters.
The work addresses the relativization of the narrated history, the facts, and the perception of space by each observer.
